Showcase of Kings

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

Last night’s filming of the Windsor Elvis-Fest went very smooth. In case you weren’t there, this video gives you a taste of what you missed. To see more, order your copy of the entire performance today by calling our office at 519-739-3700. You can also still order the 2006 Elvis-Fest DVD.

Windsor the next filmmaking hotbed?

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Last Saturday, there was an article in the Windsor Star that touched on the growing filmmaking community in Windsor. In case you missed it, you can read the article by clicking here.

It’s great to see people realizing that you don’t need to be in Toronto to make films. Hopefully this is something that continues to gather steam.

This article was of particular interest to me as I would like to make films as well. If you would like to be involved in one of my upcoming films, as cast or crew, or if you think you have a dynamite script, please contact my office at 519-739-3700.

The King is back!

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

It looks like we will indeed be filming the 2008 Windsor Elvis-Fest.

In 2006, Windsor held its first annual Windsor Elvis-Fest, and Delirium Media was chosen to film the event and produce a souvenir DVD. We filmed the entire three-day event and edited the footage down into a 90-minute highlight video. It was very well received, many claiming it to be the best Elvis-Fest video they had ever seen.

In 2007, it came right down to the wire, but due to legal restrictions with EPE (Elvis Presley Enterprises), it became apparent that we would not be able to film enough footage to produce a worthwhile video. It was never filmed.

But this year, we are very excited to be part of the festival once again. The video will be a little different the 2006 version. Rather than package highlights from the weekend, this year’s video will contain only the “Showcase of Kings” (Friday night’s show at the Chrysler Theatre). There are still restrictions on what we can film, so we are limited to Friday’s show, however, on the good side, you will see every song in its entirety, as opposed to 30-60 second clips.

You will be able to order your 2008 Elvis-Fest DVD starting Friday night at the Chrysler Theatre. After that, you may call the Delirium Media office at 519-739-3700. Don’t forget, we still have the 2006 Windsor Elvis-Fest DVD available as well.

Got no time for you

Friday, June 20th, 2008

I’m a very friendly, easygoing person. Cool as a cucumber, you might say. But everyone gets upset every now and then, even me.

If you have an appointment with someone, anyone (doctor, vendor, friend), and you can’t make it for whatever reason, you call. You call because it’s the right thing to do. After all, who wants to sit around, waiting, and wondering, will my contact show up? Especially in business, where time is money.

Within the last month, I’ve had two contacts (prospective clients) that were no-shows for scheduled appointments.

Not cool.

I’ve had people run late before, but this was new.

The first one never answered the phone when I called, or returned any of the three voicemails I left. What’s up with that? At least have the courtesy to explain what happened. Maybe they booked with someone else, maybe I was out of their price range, or maybe they don’t even want a video anymore (silly goose!). That’s cool. Sure, I’d appreciate the business, but I won’t kick up a fuss if you don’t want to book me. I’ve got plenty of other bookings to tend to. But not showing up and then completely ignoring me? Totally unforgiveable.

At least the second one answered the phone and said they’ll re-schedule. Whether they actually do re-schedule or not, who knows? I’ll give that person the benefit of the doubt for now.

If you can’t make a meeting, call, it’s that simple. If you don’t, remember that there is something in life called Karma, and it might be late sometimes, but it always shows up (unlike some people).

There, that should cover my angry ranting for this year. Back to butterflies, peaceful rivers, and a light breeze blowing through your hair.

Master of my domain

Monday, June 16th, 2008

I have recently registered the following domain names:

WindsorVideoProduction.com
WindsorFilm.com
WindsorVideographer.com and
WindsorWeddingVideo.com

None of them are active yet, as I have not decided exactly what I will do with these new domains, but I have a feeling it will have something to do with creating a monopoly in Windsor for the video production market.

And now, a toast…

Gentlemen, to evil!

Betting on Caesars

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

It appears all the renovations are complete at the Caesars Windsor Casino.

Formally known as Casino Windsor, Caesars Windsor allowed the press inside for a sneak peek on Thursday, and so far the reviews have been very positive. The public will get a chance to see the new and improved casino next Thursday, June 19th.

One of the highlights is “The Colosseum,” a 5,000 seat auditorium. Some pretty impressive performers will be headlining there this summer, including one of my favourite comedians, Chris Rock (July 16th).

If you have too much money and don’t know what to do with it, maybe this will solve your problem. Gamblers will be able to make a maximum bet of $50K on certain games.

Yikes!

Hopefully this new and improved casino is a boost to Windsor’s economy and spirit, as the city could certainly use it.

Skyrockets in flight, afternoon Zylight!

Zylight

Sometimes you stumble upon something that is just really cool. Yesterday was one of those days.

Zylight has created “intelligent LED lights that give you adjustable color temperature as well as any color you need - all without filters or gels!”

Whoa!

“Plus, every Zylight has wireless ZyLink™ technology, letting you quickly build a unified LED source as large as you need, when you need it.”

This means they can be networked wirelessly. Pretty impressive stuff.

There are two models to choose from: the Z50 and the more advanced Z90.

Be sure to check out all the videos before leaving the site.

The Assassination of Logic by the Psycho Daniel Plainview

Friday, June 6th, 2008

Last night, I watched “There Will Be Blood.“ Daniel Day Lewis’ performance was great, but overall, I was a little disappointed with the movie.

I don’t know what caused Daniel Plainview to go from everyday normal guy to psychotic killer (breathing in all those oil fumes? being forced to go to church? no wi-fi access?), but whatever it was, it didn’t work for me. And I know his son H.G went deaf, but he proved at the end of the movie that he could still communicate through speech rather well, so I don’t know why he didn’t talk more. I still have no idea why he started that small fire in the cabin either, as he could have killed Daniel, Henry, and himself. And what the hell happened to Paul Sunday? He takes his $500 and then he’s never seen again. Wouldn’t he return to his family farm at some point? Strange.

In closing, I think it’s worth seeing, but don’t expect it to completely satisfy you. Considering it was up for Best Picture, it left a few too many questions unanswered for me.

I also saw “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.” This movie had potential, as there are plenty of strong performances by the cast, but ultimately it was just too long and too boring.

The movie starts off with arguably the best scene in the movie - the train robbery. It’s pitch black, you can hear the train coming, and you see all the men hiding in the shadows with guns, waiting to make their move. You feel like you’re there with them, and it’s pretty tense. But after the robbery is over, there’s not much action, certainly nothing as exciting. The movie is cursed by this cycle where it’s good for 10 minutes, then a snore for 20, back and forth, and you inevitably begin looking at your watch, wondering when it will be over. The movie has a run time of 160 minutes, so that’s a lot to sit through. What’s hilarious is I just read on IMDB that the original cut was nearly four hours long!

Basically, there is way too much time spent on all these peripheral characters and not enough with Jesse James himself. I still say it’s worth seeing because the acting is sensational, but get comfortable on your sofa because it’s going to be a long night. Best drink some Red Bulls as well. You’ll need wings to endure this marathon.

Finally!

Whew!

What a series! It took a little longer than it probably should have, but last night, the Red Wings won the Stanley Cup.

Zetterberg’s squeaker past Fleury would hold as the game-winning goal as the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins last night in game 6 of the Stanley Cup finals.

Some of my favourite moments from the playoffs include Kronwall’s numerous open-ice hits, Franzen’s red hot scoring streak, game 5 against the Penguins which went into triple overtime, and who could forget Zetterberg’s behind the back, no-look, spin-o-rama goal against the Avalanche?!

One of the key reasons the Red Wings won was because they were healthy. Last year, Mathieu Schneider and Niklas Kronwall were both lost for the playoffs. I challenge any team to win the Cup without two of their top three defensemen. If they had even just one of those guys in the lineup, that would have made a huge impact, and I have little doubt that if both were healthy, they beat the Ducks and, most likely, go on to defeat the Senators as well. So, this year’s win should really not come as a surprise to anyone.

As for the Penguins, I don’t think they’re far away. Crosby and Malkin are two offensive juggernauts and Fleury has shown that he has the ability to steal a game. They should be the team to beat in the East again next year.

But 2008 belongs to the Detroit Red Wings. It’s great to see Stanley return to Hockeytown!

Hello Dolly!

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

If you are trying to make a video look cinematic, one movement you will certainly be trying to use is the dolly. Not a zoom (cheap dolly), but actually moving the camera in (or out). This is not always practical in tight spaces, or you may not have the budget for dolly track.

In a pinch, try this.
